I Gotta Ownit Already! Launching the New Podcast
Wow so it’s here. The debut of the Ownit! Powercast, and I am both overwhelmed and very excited to finally put it out there. I don’t think we talk enough about personal empowerment, self-confidence or healthy relationships, especially after adolescence. But after spending many years helping people grow, helping couples and families work through their drama, you BET it has so much to do with personal empowerment.
Healthy self-esteem (or the lack of it) is at the very core of every bout of anxiety, depression, frustration and most of the conflict in the relationships I have come across. It isn’t always obvious right at the outset, when we are distracted by the arguments, the anxiety symptoms or the acting out behaviors. But treating symptoms only – in my book – simply perpetuates the real problems underneath.
That is why this podcast is so important to me. I want to create a larger conversation about self confidence, personal growth and our relationship with ourselves…because most assume this is already done, already addressed in one’s growing up etc etc.
NOT. Not in many families, but God forbid we talk about that! So much shame around the topic. So much shame around not feeling empowered. I want to get rid of the shame…and to have us talk openly and honestly about this reality, along with how to heal it. How to change it. How to tap into the core self. I also want to create a larger community where there is ongoing understanding, encouragement and loving accountability. Where the learning, the growth and the support don’t stop.
Of course, this means I myself must “own” my vulnerability, Own my risk of stepping out there! Since I believe congruence is everything when it comes to empowerment…where our walk matches our talk, I see it as fitting that I would be doing exactly what I encourage in my clients, and what I’ll be asking of my listeners on the podcast. I am so, so grateful for my family and friends who have helped me get here. For my incredibly talented husband who produced the show, while also lending his fabulous music writing and kick ass guitar skills. I’m grateful for Michelle’s snazzy voiceover and intro.
I believe in my heart of hearts that we are here to help each other grow. To help each other heal. To take our wounds and use them for good. My hope is that this podcast creates a safe space where we can come together each week and build each other up. I will also be creating a Facebook group to allow for deeper dives into the work we present on the podcast and to deepen the sense of community. Just as this podcast will be a culmination of all I have learned over the years, what I have yet to discover, and what you continue to teach me. So come join me. Join us. Let’s Do This. Together.
